3D Photorealistic Renders for BNG, Ecology & Landscape Projects
When your biodiversity net gain habitat, rewilded landscape, or nature recovery site exists only on paper, photorealistic 3D renders make it real — for planning authorities, investors, and the communities you're engaging. At The Ruby Cube, we translate complicated ecological data, habitat maps, and design briefs into imagery so accurate it's used in planning submissions, boardroom presentations, and public consultations across the UK.
Why Photorealistic Renders Matter for Your Project
For Developers
BNG is now mandatory under the Environment Act 2021. Every major development must demonstrate at least a 10% biodiversity net gain before planning permission is granted. Photorealistic renders turn your biodiversity gain plan from a technical document into a visual argument — one that planning officers, local authorities, and the public can respond to without needing to interpret metric data.
• Support planning applications with Before & After imagery
• Communicate BNG habitat value to non-technical decision-makers
• Use renders in marketing materials and sales brochures
• Demonstrate ecological credentials to ESG-focused investors
For Planners & Local Planning Authorities
Local planning authorities are under pressure to assess BNG submissions efficiently and accurately. High-quality renders provide an at-a-glance visual record of the proposed habitat creation — reducing the need for site visits at early stages and supporting faster, more confident decision-making.
• Evaluate habitat creation proposals with spatial clarity
• Verify before-and-after conditions against metric data
• Communicate outcomes to committee members and elected officials
For CEOs & Organisational Leaders
When you need to communicate an ecological transformation to a board, a funding panel, or the national press, written reports and spreadsheets fall short. Photorealistic renders give leadership teams the imagery to tell a compelling, credible story — whether that's a rewilding project spanning hundreds of acres or an urban green corridor running through a city development.
What Is a 3D Photorealistic Render?
A photorealistic render is a computer-generated image that is indistinguishable — or near-indistinguishable — from a photograph of a completed project. Unlike basic diagrams or concept sketches, photorealistic imagery conveys light, texture, depth, and atmosphere. For ecology and BNG projects, this means stakeholders can see not just where a habitat will be, but what it will look and feel like in summer, in morning light, or across a 25-year maturation cycle.
We build every image from real project data: DEFRA LiDAR terrain models, Statutory Biodiversity Metric outputs, habitat management plans, and design drawings. Nothing is guesswork. The result is imagery that is both visually compelling and evidentially credible.

What We Deliver
Still Renders
Single-frame, high-resolution images of your project at any chosen viewpoint, time of day, or seasonal condition. Delivered in print-ready and web-optimised formats.
Before & After Comparisons
Side-by-side or split-screen imagery showing the existing baseline habitat and the projected outcome. Essential for planning submissions and stakeholder reports.
Seasonal Progressions
Series of renders showing habitat development over time — from Year 1 establishment through to Year 5 and Year 25 maturity. Demonstrates long-term BNG commitment to planning authorities and investors.
Aerial & Drone Perspective Renders
Bird's-eye imagery generated from LiDAR terrain data, showing habitat extent, spatial relationships, and landscape context. Particularly valuable for habitat bank and large-scale nature recovery projects.
Our Process
We work with your existing data — no site visit required in most cases. Send us your design drawings, habitat maps, or Biodiversity Metric outputs, and we'll build the 3D environment from there. Typical delivery is 2–4 weeks from brief to final renders, depending on project scope. You can find read about the full process here »
• Step 1: Brief
You share project data, viewpoints, and deliverable requirements
• Step 2: Build
The Ruby Cube constructs the 3D terrain and habitat model from your data
• Step 3: Review
You review draft renders and request any amendments
• Step 4: Deliver
The Ruby Cube delivers your final high-resolution images in your required formats
FAQs
Do you need to visit our site?
Not in most cases. We use DEFRA LiDAR data and your project documentation to build accurate terrain models remotely. For highly detailed urban or complex projects, we may request additional photographs or survey data.
What data do you need from us?
A habitat management plan, site boundary data, and any design drawings or ecological survey reports. The more detail you provide, the more accurate and specific your renders will be.
Can renders be used in planning submissions?
Yes — our renders are produced to planning-grade accuracy and are regularly used in Biodiversity Gain Plan documentation, Environmental Impact Assessments, and public consultation materials.
What file formats do you deliver?
High-resolution TIFFs and JPEGs for print, optimised PNGs for digital, and layered PSDs on request. We can also deliver files sized for specific purposes such as A1 exhibition boards or web sliders.
